Pier Fishing Trends
Thursday, August 06, 2009
Apache Pier (Myrtle Beach): Flounder averaging 3 to 4 pounds are the dominant species this week, biting live mud minnows. Spanish mackerel up to 4 pounds are biting well on incoming tides when the menhaden are around. Use gold hooks or live bait such as menhaden.
Springmaid Pier: Flounder are biting mud minnows. Ribbon fish are doing well right now as well.
Myrtle Beach State Park Pier: Plenty of nice flounder are being caught. Use live mud minnows. Nice whiting, a few croaker and average size blues are biting live or cut shrimp. Good size sheepshead were caught around the pilings using barnacles.
Surfside Pier: Flounder are biting well. Use live mud minnows. Nice size whiting are biting cut bait such as shrimp or mullet.
The Pier at Garden City: Nice ‘keeper' flounder are biting live mud minnows. Whiting, spotted sea trout and blues are biting shrimp. A large pompano was taken on shrimp.
