Myrtle Beach Fishing Reports

Aug 6 2009 - Pier Fishing Trends
Apache Pier (Myrtle Beach): Flounder averaging 3 to 4 pounds are the dominant species this week, biting live mud minnows. Spanish mackerel up to 4 pounds are biting well on incoming tides when the menhaden are around. Use gold hooks or live bait such as menhaden. Springmaid Pier: Flounder are biting mud minnows. Ribbon fish are doing well right now as well. Myrtle Beach State Park Pier: Plen more
Apr 16 2009 - Black Drum and Redfish Are On The Move
Black Drum and redfish are really on the move around Little River. After last weeks wind and more wind the fishing has greatly improved. It seems like there are more Black Drum than I can REMEMBER. CRABS FISHED ON LIGHT LINE AND A LITTLE BIT OF SPLIT SHOT IS THE WAY TO FISH. Casting up near structure close to shelly bottom will produce a nice catch. Redfish in the 20 inch class are out and about more
Mar 21 2009 - Catches of Small Flounder Are Picking Up
Sheepshead: Very good. Sheepshead fishing at the jetties continues to be extremely productive. Fish fiddler crabs on a Carolina rig. Black Drum: Fair. The action has slowed but decent numbers of black drum are still being caught around the jetties and in the creeks, with lots of 14 to 27 inch eating size fish. These can be caught on cut, whole dead, or live shrimp, as well as on crabs (ef more
Mar 15 2009 - Fishing is Heating Up With the Water Temps
Water temps are heating up and so has the fishing. Redfish have been lurking in the shallows and can be caught with a stealthy approach. Poling your skiff is very necessary to keep the fish from blowing out or being spooked. Black Drum have also made a solid showing lately. They have been foungd in Dunn Sound and the ledges in the I C W. Looks like the gulp shrimp fished on a light jig seems to w more

Feb 24 2009 - Sheepshead Continue to Bite

Feb 15 2009 - Red Hot Fishing
Great air temp this past week has got the fishing red hot. Redfish are abundant in the shallow creeks and are easily taken on live or artificial baits. I prefer the Berkley Gulp shrimp or gulp jerkbaits. Live baits such as mud minnow or live or fresh shrimp also will get a bite on reds. Last week I tried my hand with a 9 weight fly rod and found a willing redfish to fall for a clouser minnow. Not more
Feb 9 2009 - Trout Fishing is Good for Anglers Who Know Deep Holes in the Creek
Sheepshead: Very good. Sheepshead fishing at the jetties continues to be extremely productive. Fish fiddler crabs on a Carolina rig. Spottail Bass: Good. For anglers who know what they are doing the spottail bass fishing remains strong. Lots of spottails continue to be caught in the creeks, and fish have formed big schools. Gulp, DOA Shrimp, live mullet or mud minnows, and cut bait will all wor more

Feb 2 2009 - Redfish Are Up in the Marshes
Happy to say water temps are back into the 50's. This makes for spot on fishing. Redfish are up shallow in the marshes and have to be approached with stealth. Shallow draft flats boats or wade fishing is the only way to score a nice catch. Looks like another cold front is on the way but for now enjoy the bounty. Half day rates are discounted now so give me a shout if you want to enjoy the great f more
Jan 22 2009 - Intracoastal Report
Not really much going on now intracoastal with water temps in the upper forty's. Temps below 50 degrees usually make fishING tough in the winter. Redfish can still be seen in large schools but they become very LATHARGIC. You can find these large schools of fish in super shallow water, water 2 foot or less. It is really exiting when you get on a hot bite in the winter. Looks like temps will get up more
Jan 22 2009 - Pier Fishing Report
Here along the Grand Strand, when the ocean temperature drops fishing will slack off. However some of the species you will find will be Black Drum. Red Drum, Trout, Whiting, Croakers, Sharks, Skates and an occasional Silver Perch. Some of our recent catches here at Apache Pier have been 4 lb + Black Drum, 3 lb + Red Drum, along with some Whiting, Croaker, and Silver Perch. If your looking for more
